Rushing off home after our temporary Ramazan work timings and then longing for iftaari to roll around can be painful. Let’s say you get home around 4 pm, and then you’re just watching the clock tick tock away and praying for a miracle. At least that’s what I’ve been suffering through since day one – but I also found the best solution that’s both halal and also a nice change from all the Pakistani dramas I watch. NETFLIX FOR RAMAZAN Y’ALL!
I’ve carefully constructed a list YOU MUST WATCH IN ORDER to heighten all senses and emote all emotion so you aren’t a mess by iftaari time. You’ll be balanced, satisfied and emotionally pragmatic by the end of this special Ramazan Netflix list.
1. Conan Without Borders
Famous late night host Conan O’Brien visits various sites around the world, from Haiti to Italy – with the latter being my favorite episode; he takes his favorite staffer Jordan Schlansky, and both go on a road trip to experience different cultures.
2. The Society
My actual obsession through this Ramazan – time ka pata hi nahi chala while watching this show and before I knew it, it was time for iftaar! ‘The Society’ is an addictive mystery drama about a group of teenagers who are plunged into an alternate universe that looks just like their hometown.
3. Street Food
Netflix explains this mouthwatering documentary amazingly well; “from the creators of Chef’s Table, comes a new mouth-watering documentary series that celebrates the local heroes of street food in Thailand, India, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.” THIS MAKES ME ANTICIPATE IFTAAR EVEN MORE!
4. Grace And Frankie
Next up, something very light-hearted, easygoing and tremendous fun! “From the co-creator of Friends, Netflix original comedy GRACE AND FRANKIE stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two women who form an unlikely bond after their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other.”
5. Resurrection Ertugrul
Ramazan has become synonymous with watching something to inspire and learn. While this now-iconic Turkish show is not exactly historically accurate it is nevertheless an interesting take on Muslim history in Turkey. Of course, it is our Prime Minister’s favorite too so there’s the added bonus there.
6. Tidying Up With Marie Kondo
I spend a few hours a day tidying up my things, from my clothes to my stationary to pretty much everything in the house – all thanks to Marie Kondo! Time whizzes by when you’re rearranging your life in an orderly fashion! “Tidy guru Marie Kondo comes to the rescue by helping people tackle the clutter that’s holding them back.”
7. Line Of Duty
Now that you’ve tidied up, drooled over delicious food, lost all your hair watching mystery dramas and laughed your socks off with a comedy one, it’s time for some British police fighting crime!
8. Dead To Me
“Misery just found company.” Starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, this riveting new Netflix original is about a widow who’s trying to deal with her husband’s freak accident – and the more she tries to ‘deal’ with it, the more shocking revelations unfurl!
9. Our Planet
David Attenborough’s voice will soothe your soul and hunger pangs as he takes you on a phenomenal journey into our own planet. “Share the wonder of the extraordinary place we call home. Utilizing the latest technology Our Planet was filmed entirely in Ultra High Definition in over 50 countries. From exotic jungles to the deepest seas, open your eyes to the connections we all share.”
10. Justice: Qalb Al Adala
Not only is it the first Emirati show on Netflix, it is also very entertaining. The series follows an ambitious lawyer, who, after a prestigious education in the US returns home to launch her legal career.
11. Gilmore Girls
Now to wrap up this list, it’s time to reawaken nostalgia and revisit Stars Hollow! Spend your time with the perfectly imperfect mother-daughter duo we all grew up with!
