Ramadan Kareem. A holy month synonymous with countless blessings from the Almighty. It’s a month of utter bliss and serenity, which reminds us about His gifts and sanctifications for Muslims around the world. It allows us to put ourselves in the shoes of the underprivileged, and subsequently help them with our charity. However…
Some people forget the true essence of this Holy month, and take it up as a vacation from their year-long mischiefs. With Ramadan just around the corner, here are some things that you definitely must NOT do when the Holy month comes to visit.
1. Not wake up for Sehri like this…

Wake up not to eat, but to offer your Fajr prayers too! It’s not a competition of how long you can last with no food and water!
2. Don’t spend the day sleeping.
It is very easy to sleep late at night, but equally hard to wake up early in the morning. Just make sure you don’t fall asleep right after Sehri, and wake up ten minutes before Iftar, suddenly remembering that it’s time for some food!

It’s not a sleeping marathon!
3. Don’t eat like a horse!
Seriously, don’t. Although it’s easy to get carried away when you have Ramadan-exclusive delicacies like the Pakoray, Samosay, Fruit Chaat, Dahi Baray, Chholay, and the heavenly cold bottle of Rooh Afza lined up in front of your.

4. Don’t burp out loud in the Masjid during Jama’at.
Please! No one wants to smell what you had for Sehri/Iftar.

5. Don’t bunk Taraweeh and go ‘partying’ with your friends.
The Taraweeh is undoubtedly a long and tiring religious exercise but that doesn’t mean that you offer the first 8 Rakat and go party with your friends afterwards.

6. Avoid swirling cold water in your mouth…
It’s hard to resist and you’re thirsty. But please, don’t do this.

7. Don’t remind everyone that you’re fasting.
Please don’t. Chances are 19 out of 20 people around you are fasting too so no need to continuously remind everyone that you’re fasting. Everyone knows how ‘naik‘ you are!
Which brings us to the point…
8. Don’t remind everyone that you’re only controlling your anger because you’re fasting.
You feel like unleashing a verbal bashing on a person because he’s annoying you? Well, don’t. Ramadan is all about forgiving and being calm.

And finally…
9. Don’t waste your time watching those ‘Amir Liaquat’ Ramazan Transmissions!
Learn to despise those who ask for it! Spend your time doing something worthwhile.
