Women from the whole country came out on the streets on the 8th of March to reclaim their rights. To tell the people of the world, and especially of their country, that they will not back down. That they will fight for their rights and they will not let anything come in the way

People of all ages were present at the March

And we were there, too

Amidst the peaceful march, there were slogans that were held up by these fierce women

Some spoke out and said what most women of our country want to

Some were just scary, hard-hitting insights into our own society

And this particular poster that has stirred up quite a riot on the Internet

Amidst these posters was one that spoke of ‘chadar and chaar deewari’

The poster says “yeh chaar deewari, yeh chadar, galli sari laash ko mubarak”. Which basically translates to ‘those who sit within the constrictions of their homes, are walking, charred corpses’

The issue that Sarah Khan raised was a simple one

“This is something what you all need to understand that “parhai kee saath 100 feesad tarbiat ki bhe zaroorat hotee hai (TARBIAT MATTERS A LOT)” This is not how it should be done. Are you asking for your rights or are you trying to disrespect other women? If one is siting home in pardah taking care of her man and the family , she’s busy maintaining her home you’re pointing out it to be wrong and naming it “laash” ? If this is what our women want as their “right” ! I’m with our men, totally. #antifeminism#womeninhijabarebeautifulandfree

Sarah basically said that within demanding your rights, you are disrespecting other women

That not all women sit at home and work, by force. That there are some who choose to take care of the house, of their families, and that’s a full-time job in itself. And that people who point that out and call that woman a ‘laash’, is just disrespecting a woman’s choice of lifestyle. Which also makes sense.

Her fans were there to support her through thi

The placard holding the sign, the sentiment behind that is also one that needs to be taken into consideration and because the issue raised is deeper than the surface level interpretation that was done here

That women who are forced to stay inside the house, not allowed to explore their potential. Those who are not allowed to work, if they want to. Or to study or even continue their studies. Those are the ones who don’t get to live their lives on their own terms. And those are the ones being termed as corpses.

We understand that the slogan is open for interpretation. and that everyone has the right to take away what they want to, from it. But we also want to know what YOU think about this issue. Let us know in the comments below.
