In recent years, Pakistani cinema has seen incredible growth; from new talent to new films and genres coming up. Indie films have also begun to find a space within the Pakistani entertainment world; the success and acclaim of the film ‘Cake’ is proof of that. Another strong contender is releasing in Pakistani cinemas on the 22nd of March.

‘Laal Kabootar’ is a thrilling desi murder mystery which stars Ahmed Ali Akbar and Mansha Pasha.

The trailer for this film is not only super sexy but also leaves us on the edge of our seats. Also, this film has the unique distinction of being the first ever ‘red band trailer’, which basically means it’s rated 18+. The trailer lives up to that hype, with bold language and swearing like you’ve never seen before.

The trailer opens on Ahmed Ali Akbar’s character and his dream of going to go live in Dubai.

Rather his ‘adhoora khwaab’.

This man isn’t from the glamorous world of Karachi, the world we’re so used to seeing in our media. No, he’s from the depths of the city, he carries himself like a true shehri.

Mansha Pasha’s character is your typical Karachiite woman- she’s strong, she’s bold and she says what she wants.

It isn’t clear what trouble she lands herself in, but all we know is that she’s been the target of a crime.

She somehow turns to Ahmed Ali Akbar’s character for help, thus beginning their big crime mystery.

This isn’t a fluff account of what happens in police investigations. They’re shown in as bright a light as the characters are. Some of their dialogues in the trailer will leave you in shock (good shock), and will leave you asking yourself, ‘they actually said THAT?’.

And uff, the shots in this movie are just WOW.

Although most of the time Ahmed Ali Akbar is drawing our attention!

Laal Kabootar”, at least from the trailer, seems like a film we haven’t seen in Pakistan yet. It shows the true grit of Karachi, the part we sometimes choose not to show. If I had to choose one word for the film, I would choose ‘raw’. There’s no banawat in this, it isn’t trying to be something else- this trailer stands on its own and it stands apart from the rest.

To top it off, the cinematography of the film is simply to die for. The coloring, the angles, and the editing are truly a class apart from the filmography we have seen in Pakistan to date.

This film is definitely something different and will appeal to adventurous cinema goers, the type of people who are looking for a break from the usual cinema experience, and it seems like they will surely not be disappointed.
