In a world where food safety is paramount, the World Health Organization (WHO) stands as a beacon of advocacy and action. With their unwavering commitment to ensuring safe food for all, WHO in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has prioritized this global concern, emphasizing the need to “Prepare for the unexpected” on World Food Safety Day 2024.
Why does FAO prioritize food safety? The answer lies in the staggering statistics: Globally, about 1 in 10 people fall ill from contaminated food, with 40% of these cases affecting children under the age of 5. Shockingly, unsafe food claims 420,000 lives annually, highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures. Moreover, foodborne illnesses tend to peak in summer due to warmer temperatures, making proactive measures even more crucial.
In response to these challenges, FAO has initiated various programs and campaigns to promote food safety awareness. Among these initiatives is Shafaq’s Promise of Food Safety, a commendable effort aimed at spreading awareness about foodborne diseases, safe food practices, and hygiene protocols. Shafaq’s manufacturing process adheres rigorously to WHO standards, ensuring that consumers receive only the safest oil and food products.
Shafaq’s Manufacturing Process that adheres to WHO standards:
Shafaq Cooking Oil is spearheading a digital campaign to raise awareness about food safety. Alongside, their brand ambassadors are actively engaging in supermarket initiatives, distributing informative flyers. These flyers emphasize the significance of food safety and provide actionable steps for ensuring it at home, stressing that food safety is a collective responsibility for everyone at home.
As part of their commitment to fostering a culture of food safety, Shafaq Cooking Oil and Banaspati were proud sponsors of the National Dialogue on World Food Safety Day in Islamabad that occurred on June 7th, 2024. This event served as a platform to engage stakeholders, policymakers, and the public in meaningful discussions about the importance of safe food practices.

But this is not all. Shafaq urges consumers to join them in their mission by spreading awareness about food safety through word of mouth. Together, we can amplify the message and emphasize the significance of safe food in safeguarding public health.
As we commemorate World Food Safety Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to ensuring safe oil, safe food, and ultimately, a safer world for all. Shafaq Cooking Oil and Banaspati are proud to champion this cause, striving to make a tangible difference in the lives of millions. Together, let’s prepare for the unexpected and pave the way for a future where safe food is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
