Noor Jehan is honored as ‘Melody Queen’ or ‘Malaika-e-Tarannum‘ of South Asia for her tremendous services to the entertainment industry of South Asia. It’s her 91st birthday today and Google is honoring her with this beautiful doodle.

Noor Jehan started singing at the age of five but she rose to fame by playing the iconic role of Anarkali in 1953’s movie of the same name.

The historical drama film was a major hit of that year and stayed popular among the masses for a decade. Noor Jehan had an amazing singing career where she recorded around 18,000 songs in various languages spoken in Pakistan inculding Persian. Her patriotic songs played a major role in the war of 1965 by raising the morale of soldiers fighting on the front.

Noor Jehan had a special knack for singing poetry of famous Pakistani poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz and her rendition of ‘Mujhse Pehli Se Mohabbat Meray Mehboob Na Mang’ still makes everyone’s heart swoon.

Jehan received various awards including ‘Life Time Achievement Award’, once before her death, and one even after her death.

She had 6 children including singer Zi-le-Huma who’s son is Ahmed Ali Butt, the famous actor, comedian, and rapper of Pakistani rock band Entity Paradigm.
