For fun or to kill time, almost every day, you read daily horoscopes, tarot readings, and everything else related to astrology, and the next thing you know, you cannot get through your day without reading it! At this point, you know all about each mercury retrograde, zodiac sign, and the planets ruling different signs. If all this sounds familiar, chances are that you are addicted to astrology.

It is not as uncommon as you may think. Searches for ‘astrology’ and ‘birth chart’ reached a five-year high by the end of 2020, according to Google Trends. Anyhow, we have a few reasons which might explain the growing obsession with astrology.

1. To cope with uncertainty

It is in human nature to feel uncertain about the future. We all have this need to know everything and to have an answer for everything. This is where astrology comes into play as we turn to horoscopes for all the answers. It brings us a sense of security by providing an idea of what can be expected. This makes sense: In the past two years, uncertainty surged due to the pandemic, so more people than ever turned to astrology for guidance. Reading horoscopes is okay, but relying on them for security can lead to an unhealthy addiction. Believe in your ability to support yourself and navigate life’s uncertainties.

2. To get to know yourself

Sometimes, in order to better understand yourself, you may dig too deep when researching your zodiac sign. The self-discovery requires you to know about your sun, moon, rising, and venus signs. However, a good approach would be to get to know yourself better by exploring the outside world, engaging in volunteer work, or even learning a new skill.

3. Curious about someone else

Have you ever had a new crush and then explored their zodiac sign? Based on their zodiac sign, you could construct their personality and feel like you know them well. If it is compatible with you, you may have already begun fantasizing about your relationship! As opposed to basing someone’s entire personality just on their zodiac sign, it is critical to get to know them in a genuine way.
