Do you know about Aunty Munaver?

As someone with an aggressive sweet tooth and a long family history of diabetes, I have to pick my poison carefully. Whether I force myself to skip dinner for that frosted indulgence and sign off to a life of needles and insulin or split the damn brownie into four with my friends and call it a day is the real question.

Either way, I’m in a complicated relationship with dessert: Can’t live with them and can’t live without.

Knowing fully well my unique predicament, my cousin from Karachi mentioned Aunty Munaver’s 3 Milk Cake. Upon further inspection (and a quick google search), I managed to decode the “3 milk cake” proposition, formally known as Tres Leches cake in Spanish.

The 3 milk cake is a warm sponge made of three layers, each soaked in a different kind of milk to guarantee a soft texture.

Namely, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream.

While rating dessert in Karachi is no easy feat, what with Nutella burgers and chocolate wontons making you say God’s name in six different languages, Auntie Munaver’s dessert is the perfect combination of home-baked omnomnom goodness.

Even though everything Aunty Munaver touches turns to gold (and streams of saliva in your mouth), the 3-milk cake is her crown jewel.

Tossing fresh strawberries and cream onto light and fluffy sponge, this specialty quite literally takes the cake.

And there is a delightful variation for every sweet palate.

The three milk chocolate cake by Aunty Munaver is the stuff of legends now, the centerpiece to every birthday party and “just-because” surprises.

The three-milk cake comes with a variety of toppings, including, but definitely not limited to:

Blueberry

Peech

Priced at 2000 rupees a pop, the cake by Aunty Munaver has quickly garnered popularity amidst catty kitty party circles, birthday surprise squads, anniversary romantics and dinner get-togethers crew.

I asked around and only received raving reviews about Aunty Munaver.

If you’re in Karachi and haven’t ordered in yet, I urge you to give a go and let me know what you think ASAP.

Because honestly, who doesn’t love cake?

Oh and if you’re still confused, she’s not the lady in the cover photo. That’s famous food show host Padma Lakshmi who, I’m sure, would definitely die for Aunty Munaver’s cakes like everyone in Karachi does.
