Pakistanis love for chai knows no bounds. Chai is more than just a drink to us – it’s a part of the rhythm of life. The thick, frothy, sweet, liquid goodness is what we start and end our day with and serve to our loved ones – no matter what the occasion.

“The Chai Spot” is a dhaaba themed chai lounge in New York City that donates half of their proceeds to help women and children in Pakistan.

The gorgeous dhaaba in New York City aims to help build bridges between the East and West and is helping to improve the image of Pakistan throughout the US.

“The Chai Spot aims to be the place where cultural and religious differences are left at the door. Full of color, love, and light, our space offers customers time to indulge in dialogue about how to make peace a more possible act.”

“The Chai Spot” not only sells delicious chai, but they also offer their customers products that are handmade by women from villages in Sindh and Balochistan.

“As a cause-driven initiative, we are focused on providing opportunities to women in Pakistan to use their skills for income generation for themselves and their families. This not only boosts their confidence but gives them a respectful and dignified position in the household. ”

While what the founders of this cafe are doing is amazing, the best part of “The Chai Spot” is the love story behind it.

The founders, Khalida Brohi and David Barron, fell in love in 2014 before they took this journey to open their dhaaba in New York City

Khalida belongs to a Pakistani family from a village in Balochistan and David belongs to an Italian-American family. As most of you can guess, a marriage between the two probably wasn’t a piece of cake. After facing many hurdles along the way, chai is what played a crucial role and essentially brought the two families together – making the marriage possible.

Inspired by the power of a cup of chai, Khalida and David decided to launch an initiative that would help address global misunderstandings and promote peace.

Thus began their dhaaba. How inspiring and heartwarming is that?!?!
