Sweet Tooth, one of Lahore’s most favorite ice cream parlors, has just announced their next branch at… wait for it… Heera Mandi.

The brains behind Sweet Tooth, Mr. Umer Hussain, has always had something unique in mind for his business ventures.

Sweet Tooth has gone as far as Mushkpuri and Hunza, and has proven to be a delight for tourists looking to get some food and dessert in the region. Look at these breathtaking views:

As if that wasn’t unique enough, Mr.Hussain is a firm believer and do-er in giving back to society as much as he can

Sweet Tooth gives out ice cream to kids living in slums. In a country where transgenders are unable to find decent work for themselves, Sweet Tooth has hired them. Disabled individuals, too, work for their assembly line.

They encourage good deeds and give out free ice cream. Wah!

They also have a shake pilai

Sweet Tooth tou saali bhi ban gai.

So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Mr. Hussain’s next venture is even more unique and unconventional

While there are many restaurants and eateries already present there, most haw hayes are about the actual name i.e. Sweet Tooth Heera Mandi.

There is a certain taboo attached to Heera Mandi, most Pakistanis are already aware of that. But Sweet Tooth wants to highlight the bigger picture of it and erase a few misconceptions.

Contrary to popular belief, Heera Mandi was named after Heera Singh, Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s closest aides. It has always been thought that the name heera or diamond was due to the prostitutes that resided there, but that isn’t the case.

This area, also known as the Shahi Muhalla in the Mughal Era, was the center of art, food, culture, and music. Today it has been reduced to the-place-that-must-not-be-named.

After hearing about it, some people felt uncomfortable, offended and angry because of the idea of what the Heera Mandi area represents.

Some said bohat khoob, smash the social taboos. Sweet Tooth wants to embrace the name, connect to its Lahori roots and encourage people to talk about the area as a place of history and culture, and restore it to its former glory: as the Heera Mandi of Heera Singh, as the Shahi Muhalla of the Mughals.

In the words of Mr. Umer Hussain, “Heera Mandi – it’s a name you are probably too shy and reluctant to take! A journey from Ba-Adab to Bay-Adab“.

And guess what?!

There’s going to be a fusion menu at the Heera Mandi branch. Get ready for some culture shock, Lahoriyo! We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

All in all, it looks like it’s going to be great to have our favorite dessert place at one of the most visited and loved areas of the city with the most beautiful view.
