‘Mujhe dheko…mene tumse kabhi nafrat nahi kiya Ulfat”

The distressing last episode of ‘Dil Mom Ka Diya’ ended last night, and it’s left everyone with incredibly heavy hearts. I cannot begin to describe how extraordinary this drama has been, and I’m failing to collect my thoughts after such an intense finale. Before we get into how fans are in absolute tears, I want to give a standing ovation to Neelam Muneer, Yasir Nawaz, Imran Ashraf and Hina Mani who deserve FUCKING AWARDS.

*spoiler alert*

The last two episodes, in short, were full of remorse, regret, and forgiveness – let us begin with Tamkinat.

Tamkinat has been through hell. She unfailingly tried to save her relationship with Azhar, who refused to be with her because of all the humiliation and belittlement caused by Ulfat. Azhar realizes his mistake and vows to bring her back. It was never her fault – nothing was ever her fault, yet she suffered the most.

Tamkinat and Azhar’s most intense moment comes when he arrives at her door and vows to spend the rest of his life begging for forgiveness – Imran Ashraf and Hina Mani shine in this astounding scene

While at first Tamkinat (rightfully) lashes out at him, she calms down when Azhar continues to explain his wrongdoing. She walks out of her door, sits beside him and they reconcile.

Azhar finally brings a nervous Tamkinat home, and everyone beautifully embraces both.

Ulfat has changed so much from the start of the drama – her desperation to heal her ailing, selfish husband is both admirable and unthinkable.

Tipu treated her terribly, yet the reason she stays with him is only that Afzal’s kindness and patience towards her when they were married, continues to with her. She ultimately has no one to go to…so she went to the only man who bestowed her with an undying and overwhelming warmth – Afzal.

The problem is that no one in the family can ever forgive Ulfat for how awful she was to their heart and soul – Afzal, especially Akmal who cannot ever even think of forgiving her.

That terrifying scene where she orders Afzal for a divorce at his office in front of everyone is on a non-stop loop in Akmal’s mind. He warns Afzal that he will literally kill her if he ever comes back into their lives. He breaks down because he cannot tolerate any more pain his elder brother has had to face.

Ulfat arrives at Afzal’s office, removes the burqa from her face in another incredibly emotional moment. He walks to her, gives her the paper and they both have a moment of clarity.

Afzal has and will always love Ulfat. As she walks away, thankful Afzal and Akmal break down. It’s harrowing and incredibly excruciating to watch.

Afzal later reminisces about Ulfat as he looks at a picture of their marriage that he stashed away. In tears, he says he never hated her and wonders what went wrong in life.

“Kiya kar diya tumne. Kiya kar diya tumne Ulfat.”
