A dinner table is a central meeting point for most Pakistani households and food always brings people together. In fact some of your best memories are probably from the time when you were sitting at the dinner table noshing on ami ke haath ki biryani and licking the plates clean. Are you ready to share the feeling?
These memories from around the dinner table are shared by every Pakistani household and we’re sure you share the feelings with us #sharethefeeling
1. Everyone shares their stories from the day
While you’re sitting down to eat that haleem your mommy made especially for you, you know you’ve got to give your family something too, so you start reciting how the biggest scandal of the day was when Jeena said for the 1000th time how she doesn’t have parents.
2. Someone will be angry that the dinner is gobi instead of burgers.
Don’t you just share the feeling, sometimes?
3. You pretend you don’t really care when your brother takes that last taang wali boti with the last serving of biryani that you had your eyes on.
4. Your sister will tell you why she hates her boss at her new job
She’ll tell you how her boss made her stay an extra hour to complete a meaningless report as she scoops up that aaloo shorba with the garma garam roti.
5. Of course, every Pakistani dinner table conversation is incomplete without the topic of religion or politics being discussed
And mind you, things WILL get heated. Someone WILL raise their voice. NO ONE will agree with the other’s statement and world peace will not be achieved. But memories will definitely be made.
6. Someone will bring up their phone to show that funny meme from MangoBaaz that all the “cool kids” are hating on.
“Dekho toh sahi, Pakistani Buzzfeed kahin ke… Let me share this on my newsfeed”.
7. Your abba jee will scold everyone to put away your phones for dinner
“khaatay waqt toh iss manhoosiat ko chorh do, 2 minute ke liye“.
8. The family’s baby will refuse to eat at the dinner table because she has to catch up on her favorite TV show
After all, it is Jeena’s 1001st time telling everyone that she doesn’t have parents.
9. There will be someone who’s throwing a temper tantrum and eating their dinner silently
And then immediately leaving as soon as they are done.
10. You dad will definitely show his discontent with sabzi for dinner, yet again.
Dinner without gosht is not a man’s favorite dinner most often.
11. Garam garam rotiyan will be called for
Even though everyone’s still nibbling on their first ones.
12. Your parents will definitely lecture you on not eating enough
Or drinking too much water right after finishing up your food.
13. Anyone sitting by the jug of water will have the duty to constantly pour glasses for everyone.
14. The youngest will be in charge of making extra rounds to the kitchen for bringing the extra fork for achaar or another spoon for the chutney.
15. Your mom’s latest mohallay ki gossip will be shared
You need to keep up with what Auntie Shaista’s daughter Rubina is doing with Auntie Khalida’s son Jehangir.
16. Everyone will laugh and share the feelings of happiness and love.
Share your favorite dinner table memories with us, share the feelings.
