Unless you have been living under a rock, you may have heard about this recent piece of news,
All of Pakistan’s media has been having a field day in terms of the allegations made against the ‘Rockstar.’
However, apart from the news alerts, twitter mania, and Instagram polls, the whole incident has also brought the #MeToo campaign right to the heart of Pakistan.
And Google has taken notice.
Google has a visual representation of #MeToo around the world and Pakistan has officially made its mark.
And it is absolutely insane.
On a global scale, the hashtag was shown as such:
And now Pakistan is just one of the countries that have been added to the long list of places around the world taking part in the campaign.
#MeToo, started in the US and became a a global movement not centered on just the grounds of feminism, but the basis of human rights
Spearheaded by women in the west through sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood hotshot Harvey Weinstein, the world has not turned a blind eye to sexual harassment since, and countries around the world are doing the same.
And finally, fortunately, but unfortunately, the conversation around sexual harassment has come to Pakistan.
It is becoming part of our daily dialogue and for our country, that is absolutely incredible. What seemed like a conversation we would be having years from now, is being highlighted on every news channel, social media thread and on the lips of every journalist in town.
As well as on every citizen’s, it seems:
"If this can happen to someone like me, an established artist, then it can happen to any young woman" says #MeeshaShafi. #AliZafar #SexualHarassmenthttps://t.co/EmwsThSkrk pic.twitter.com/lH4KyV3wIv

Whilst ‘predatory behavior’ of an individual may be known, it takes guts to stand up and break the silence, knowing the risks of backlash…..#MeeshaShafi calls #TimesUp on #AliZafar no more #MeToo https://t.co/kL9mjW8wEd

As part of Pakistan's entertainment industry for more than a decade, I can assure you if other women in Pakistan Entertainment industry starts to come out with their stories, there will be < 10% men left to work with. #MeeshaShafi #AliZafar

Men get away with sexual harassment in a culture of silence, where women are blamed for being treated inappropriately & for speaking up about said harassment. We have to change our culture, believe & support women brave enough to speak up. Enough. #MeToo #meeshashafi #AliZafar

Also, no woman wants to lie about being sexually abused. Who would want to make that up? But it's natural to lie about not being an abuser. So please listen to Meesha with an open mind and do not give that credit to Ali Zafar instead. #MeeshaShafi #MeToo #AliZafar
