The deadly third wave of the pandemic has tightened its grip on the South Asian region. With the number of cases increasing at a rapid rate, the government and the administrative bodies in Pakistan are trying their best to ensure the practice of SOPs.

Amidst a situation, where the government is trying to make restrictions stricter than before, the health minister of KP, Taimur Khan Jhagra was caught openly violating SOPs

Basically, the Minister was a part of an overly crowded iftari. It was said that it was an event planned at a grand scale thus the number of attendees was a very large figure. The pictures from the iftari show that the SOPs were not followed at all and most importantly, the law enforcement agencies were not seen around trying to implement the SOPs.

People rightly called out the Taimur Khan Jhagra for violating SOPs and for not practicing the rules set by his own government and one of the biggest challenges that his own ministry is at the forefront for

They demanded strict action to be taken against Taimur Khan Jhagra for violating SOPs and stated that it is disappointing to see the people in power exercising their authority by unfair means

After the intense backlash, Taimur Khan Jhagra responded to the criticism over his SOPs violating with a bizarre excuse

He ended the clarification by stating that he is proud of the awaam who has questioned his actions and he is ready to face the legal consequences of his carelessness.

His explanation regarding his careless attitude invited a lot of criticism and trolling

People termed it as a lame excuse by Taimur Khan Jhagra over violating SOPs that had nothing to do with reality

Instead of being apologetic, the health minister audaciously pointed out his favorite meme and mentioned that he is thoroughly enjoying the trolling process

While the government is already having a hard time convincing the people to follow the SOPs, incidents like these give the awam another reason to be careless and follow the footsteps of the politicians. The scary COVID figures from KPK and from the whole country in general, demand stricter restrictions and the need to practice social distancing regularly.

The minister should have realized this and should have known that being a health minister comes with great responsibility. Incidents like these discourage the people who are trying to comply with the SOPs and most importantly, all of this would aggravate the corona situation in the country.
