It’s February, the freezing cold is becoming bearable with each passing day, flowers are starting to bloom and the wind is starting to be tinged with a scent of spring and a feeling of love all over.
These classic Pakistani movies are the perfect entertainment for you and your special someone this month:
1. Chakori (1967)
Introducing the superstar pair of Nadeem and Shabana, this was a well received love story that had its premiere in Dhaka on the Eid day of 1967. This is a classic you can definitely enjoy with your special someone.
2. Armaan (1966)
Considered as the star-making venture for Waheed Murad, this movie, also starring Zeba, features the famous song “akele na jaana“. This Pervez Malik directorial venture is one of the first poor-girl-meets-rich-spoiled-guy love stories and it stars the original ‘lady killer’.
3. Saiqa (1968)
Another classic from what is called the “golden age” of Pakistani cinema is Saiqa. It stars two powerhouse performers – Shamim Ara and Mohammed Ali. This film also won Ali a Nigar Award for Best Actor so it’s bound to be an entertaining watch.

4. Anjuman (1970)
Looking to watch a movie about unfulfilled love? This 70’s blockbuster starring Rani in the titular character of a courtesan alongside Waheed Murad and Deeba is your classic while you drown your unrequited love in a tub of ice cream alongside this tragic tale.
5. Aina (1977)
Probably the most talked about love story in Pakistan, this movie starring Nadeem and Shabnam is an icon in Pakistani cinema. Be ready with a huge pack of tissue papers before you sit down to watch it though.

6. Hero (1985)
This romantic drama is tinged with a bittersweet memory of being the last feature film that starred Waheed Murad before his tragic death. In fact, this one was released two years after he passed away. Watch this to relieve the original Pakistani romantic hero’s last outing on the silver screen
7. Mera Naam Hai Mohabbat (1975)
A star-making vehicle for yet another Pakistani superstar, this time Babra Sharif. This movie was directed by Shebab Keranvi and is an adaptation of American author Erich Segal’s novel ‘Love Story’
8. Bulandi (1990)
The debut movie for current Pakistani cinema superstars Reema Khan and Shan Shahid. This Javed Fazil directed venture also starred Nadeem and Samina Peerzada. This is a classic for being the last to introduce major heartthrobs of Pakistani cinema.
9. Sargam (1995)
Starring the now ex-Pakistani Adnan Sami and his now ex-wife the evergreen Zeba Bakhtiar this musical certainly has the charms even if it may not have the box office returns from when it released.
10. Majajan (2006)
Starring Shan Shahid alongside the director of the movie, Syed Noor’s muse and wife, Saima this movie is based on the ideas of ishq and murshid that Bulleh Shah has extensively talked about in his poetry.
11 Chooria (1998)
Yet again a Syed Noor feature film with Saima in the lead, this time co-starring opposite Moammar Rana. Choorian is said to be the second highest grossing Pakistani movie of all time. It did sweep the Nigar Awards in its competing year.
12. Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa (2002)
Javed Sheikh’s directorial venture, starring Moammar Rana, Veena Malik and Sana was an ambitious love story. It was even touted as heralding a revival of Pakistani cimena, sadly that never happened but it is an interesting watch, nonetheless.

13. Bin Roye (2015)
What did come as part of a “revival” of sorts for Pakistani cinema was this movie starring Humayun Saeed and debuting Mahira Khan in her first feature film role, ahead of her other high profile releases – Ho Mann Jahan and her impending Bollywood debut, Raees opposite Shahrukh Khan. Until that happens, here’s some Bin Roye for you:
