Quite recently, Mahira Khan tweeted about a campaign we took part in during the 2013 elections

The 2013 elections were particularly memorable. Everyone was involved and there were loads of debate on public platforms. Among the voices that were going around, the voices of almost EVERY Pakistani celebrity were booming across the nation.
In this campaign, Pakistani stars came together to send across a strong message about the things that matter the most to them and to send a shut up call to those who make empty promises about ‘fixing the country’.
The stars in this video include Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui, Sheheryar Munawar and Mahira Khan just to mention a few.
In the video, the stars take down the promises of an ‘inqilaab’ and ‘tabdeeli’. In a bold statement, these stars made us all think about our priorities when it comes to Pakistan.
Towards the end of the video, they made an appeal to all those watching to think about the country first and vote for someone who can deliver on ‘real’ issues and someone who we can all stand behind, as proud citizens of Pakistan.
This video resurfaced a couple of days ago on social media and rewatching it made us think about how 2013 is any different than 2018.
Many people commented under the tweet questioning if this campaign made a difference or if anything has changed at all

While some seem to have lost all hope
Then no need to vote because in present politicians and political parties no one deserve it. All r corrupt from PTI to Pmln. Looters thieves, grabers, butchers, extremists , fanatics will contest election sponsored by aliens bahi kes ko vote day

Well, if you think about it, in terms of politics everything is the same. Promises are all still the same, they are all mostly empty, meaningless promises made by political leaders. Very few people are really thinking along the lines of the betterment of Pakistan or choosing someone who is actually ‘good’ for the country. It’s just sad to think that all the momentum of 2013 has just fizzled out and we’ve gone back to square one.
This video served a purpose; the purpose was to have a discussion in public about the elections and how to make those types of decisions. Clearly, we need more campaigns like this to keep the ball rolling on this topic and to continue having such productive and meaningful conversations.
