Maryam Nawaz was just arrested… again.
Last year Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to 7 years in jail for charges of abetment and non-cooperation levied against her by the National Accountability Bureau. But she was out on bail soon after and started to lead her father’s party Pakistan Muslim League-N in his absence.
But just earlier today, she was arrested by NAB again when she was set to visit her father Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat jail. Since it is Thursday, she gets to visit Nawaz Sharif in prison as it is visiting day. But even before her arrival the NAB team had been waiting for her and arrested her when she got to the jail. According to the Express Tribune, she had allegedly missed a summoning for her case earlier.
At the news of her arrest, a lot of people seemed to be celebrating the news of Maryam Nawaz’s arrest.

There are others who have very strong words to say against her arrest and its timing
At a critical time in Pakistan’s foreign policy when the country is engaging in some of the toughest external conflict it has seen in 72 years, an arrest of arguably the most popular opposition leader is being called a moment of petty politics by the Government.
Laanat to Pakistan govt for showing divided front instead of united one to https://t.co/TuUvdPTf7V are non serious about Kashmir.#MaryamNawaz #StandwithKashmir

People are calling it an attempt to distract from the fact that the response to the Kashmir issue by the Government has been terrible to say the least
Everyone thought this was taking the highlight away from the Kashmir issue which Pakistanis were trying to bring to the forefront constantly through the use of social media.

Arresting Maryam Nawaz in certain circumstances is very disappointing, seems like Govt is trying to divert attention from Kashmir issue!
Government have compromised Kashmir or merely NAB is being over dramatic and smart?#PPP #PYOKarachi #SelectedPM #PMLN— Mir Raheel Sharif Baloch (@MirRSB1) August 8, 2019

As can be seen by the top trends on social media right now, Maryam Nawaz’s arrest has relegated Kashmir to lower tiers
Many important figures are speaking up against the timing and manner of the arrest
This selected PM can't get over his ego and arrogance at a time when Kashmiris face Modi regime's oppression and arrested #MaryamNawaz : #Bilawal Bhutto pic.twitter.com/GHD1Q5dhCk

Arresting opposition leaders is not the path to building a consensus in Pakistan as it stands at a dangerous crossroads with India. Disastrous polarisation at home augurs poorly for supporting Kashmir in its hour of terrible need. https://t.co/VIhnJORBkL

The opposition was bound to react to Maryam Nawaz’s arrest but the gleeful name-calling from the treasury benches shows a party drunk on power and arrogance. https://t.co/qA4Hhx6h3w

The timing of the arrest is indeed unfortunate but it had to take place nonetheless since the wheels of justice stop for no one.
