As the whole world now knows, there was a mass shooting in Orlando, Fl. in the US on Sunday, leading to 50 deaths and countless injuries. Many are calling it one of, if not the most, deadliest gun-related violence in the United States. The shooter, as has been reported by the media, had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was an American born-Afghan named Omar Mateen. While the shooting was at a gay nightclub in Orlando and the mainstream media is calling it an act that was religiously charged, there are many more who are calling for a stoppage to perpetuating hatred against Muslims.

Here are what people from around the world, mostly non-Muslims, are saying in support of Muslim community:

Why is it important to recognize people supporting Muslims?

In a time when every act of violence leads to large scale condemnations about the whole of Muslim community and calling for “moderate Muslims” to separate themselves from terrorists who claim to be doing all of this in the name of religion, it is essential for those not from the Muslim community to come to terms with the idea that not all Muslims are terrorists and not all terrorists, suicide bombers, shooters, murderers, rapists and criminals are Muslims.

For Muslims to identify as “moderate” just because they don’t go blowing buildings or killing people for the sake of religion is taken as a norm following every terrorist attack that is said to be religiously motivated. It is time, we hold everyone else to the same standard since we all believe in equality, right?

And finally, condemning these acts shouldn’t be asked of anyone because as a sane person everyone should, regardless of their religious affiliation, not be in favor of unjustifiably killing innocent lives.
