Firdous Ashiq Awan is known to make headlines for her audacious opinions and a very rich legacy of public feuds over different issues. Only recently she got into an argument with a civil servant in Sialkot and now she is back in the news with another phadda.

So, basically, it started off from Javed Chaudhry’s show which had Firdous Ashiq Awan and PPP MNA, Qadir Mandokhail as guests. The duo was invited to engage in a healthy political discussion but things took an unusual turn after a heated argument between the politicians. The host, Javed Chaudhry, realizing the intensity of the situation called for a break and from the leaked footage, it appears, that the slap happened during the aforementioned commercial break.

As soon as the video went viral, Firdous Ashiq Awan explained the slap and shared her side of the story. She accused Qadir Mandokhail of harassing and defaming her
The Special Assistant to CM Punjab said that the PPP MNA verbally abused her and her father. She requested the channel to share the complete video of the incident which allegedly shows Qadir Mandokhail, using indecent language. Dr. Firdous further said that sharing the incomplete video is an attempt to defame her and furthermore, people like Qadir are a threat to a healthy political system and peaceful society.
Dr. sahiba reiterated her points in a video message and said that she will pursue this case of harassment and defamation legally

After she alleged harassment as the reason for slapping the PPP MNA, equally true to form, people resorted to passing judgments on her allegations and calling her behaya
They even brought up her past arguments with the Assistant Commissioner of Sialkot in an attempt to invalidate her
A few even accused the host of the TV show this incident happened on, Javed Chaudhry, of letting the things get out of control
People were of the view that the host leaked the footage to generate social media buzz and let the arguments during his show escalate for the same purpose.

While Pakistanis, like always, have been enjoying memes and jokes about the incident and have a found a lighter side to the video, the gravity of the fact that Dr. Firdous accused the PPP MNA of harassment can’t be ignored. Whether her allegations are proven correct or false is a matter for the relevant authorities to investigate however, we, as a society, need to take harassment of all sorts seriously. By disregarding such cases with a joke, we enable an environment where more severe cases of harassment are also taken non-seriously thus enabling a culture of violence toward women.
