The ‘Don’ Franchise has to be one of Southeast Asia’s most popular. The first film came out in 1978 with Amitabh Bachchan playing the infamous criminal mastermind. In 2006, ‘Don’ was remade with King Khan, Shahrukh Khan himself. Shah Rukh made ‘Don’ relevant for the millennial generation.

It seemed like that was the end of the Don series, however, a few years back, it turned out ‘Don 3’ was also in the works.

According to Filmfare, ‘Don 3’ will feature a new face as the infamous ‘Don’.

Filmfare reports that Farhan Akhtar, the maker of ‘Don’ and ‘Don 2’, has decided to rope in Ranbir Kapoor as Don, instead of Shahrukh Khan. They report that Shah Rukh Khan will be working with Rajkumar Hirani on his latest project, while Ranbir Kapoor will be working with ‘Don’ director, Farhan Akhtar.

The question of why Ranbir has been approached is a relevant one.

According to many, after the massive failure of ‘Zero’, Shah Rukh Khan has decided to be more careful with the scripts he chooses. Other sources claim that Shah Rukh Khan has chosen not to announce new projects right now, which is why he chose to distance himself from ‘Don’ for now.

‘Don’ is a character that has recently come to be associated with Shah Rukh Khan, which makes this news particularly interesting. That being said, the previous generations associated ‘Don’ with Amitabh Bachchan, so maybe this character is one that evolves and changes with every new actor that takes it on.

This news helps bolster Ranbir Kapoor’s career further. The actor got a massive boost after his stellar performance in ‘Sanju’. He is currently filming ‘Brahmastra’, with Alia Bhatt and the OG ‘Don’, Amitabh Bachchan. The role of ‘Don’ will be a big role for the actor, and if he does it right, it will make his career, once again!
