When it comes to coming up with delicious new delicacies, Pakistanis are second to none. We are always trying our hand at new stuff and more often than not, end up bringing forth creative dishes that reflect our culture and ways. Similarly this aspiring chef, Hamza Gulzar, just created his very own chai and rooh afza dessert, and we all want to try it.

Rumor has it, the goodies taste exactly like they sound, except that they are moist, light and warm in the center. The perfect afternoon snack or an iftar dessert? You decide.

Talking to Hamza, we got to know that he is a U.S born, raised in Pakistan, budding chef who is now back to living in the U.S. Yep, it’s a mouthful. As it was for Hamza, who was caught between two cultures and homes and was trying to figure out his place between the two.

With that in mind, he said, he’s always looking to desify new recipes and incorporate Eastern flavors into Western dishes. That’s how these two little desserts came into being.

Seeing as Rooh Afza and chai are staples in almost every desi household, it’s no wonder why everybody is so curious about these dishes and wants to try them out for themselves.
