Fatima Group and the Equestrian Federation sponsored this tent pegging event in Lahore
The event was hugely successful with a major number of participants playing the ancient sport. That’s right, tent pegging has been around for centuries! It hails from the subcontinent and was popularized internationally by European colonizers.
The game involves horses. It also happens to be one of the only 10 sports recognized by the International Equestrian Federation. That is high praise in itself! Players mount horses and wield swords or lances which they use to carry away a small grounded object which represents the ‘tent peg’.
Pakistan is one of the few countries where this sport is incredibly popular and happens to have one of the highest number of players for the sport, according to the Secretary-General of the Equestrian Federation of Pakistan, Mr. Amer Munawar Siddiqi.
The event Lahore showcased just how many talented sportsmen in the craft we have in the country
It’s honestly a shame that the ancient sport hailing from our part of the world is super underrated. However, hopefully, with more events like these, it is likely to change.
A lot of people have a clear knack for the sport in Pakistan and it is beautiful to see. The sport and those who play it need more exposure so that Pakistan can hopefully win the Olympic gold medal for the sport in the coming years.
Do you think you could be a potential player for the sport? Let us know in the comments below.
