The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore recently issued a segregation notice for students in all cafeterias. The university’s administration was under orders to make separate sitting arrangements for male and female students.
The document said, that in case of non-compliance of the order, the cafeterias will be sealed immediately. This caused a huge uproar on social media.
People were pissed
New Pakistan also concerned with separating boys and girls not giving them and education. Look at UET LAHORE pic.twitter.com/eeU18MgEn1

They thought the whole thing was pathetic
Pathetic. If our universities are up to this, no wonder we are where we are.
Also, are there no checks and balances on the VC’s authority like a faculty senate? https://t.co/uLT5guaGcl

After all, there were more important things to do…
Here many places where boys can’t go. #UETLahore should focus on other important things

Some thought a radical frame of mind solved nothing
Ignorance at its best – UET Lahore
Having such radical frame of mind we really don’t need enemies from outside.
This reminds me of Jamiat in Punjab Uni who allows only Nazim and Nazima to interact with each other with a sisterly view but they often tie their knot after studies https://t.co/2hhcMsZU2K

Others went after the professors

Why oh why oh why do we have nutty professors? https://t.co/HGkzSrbixU

Then the tides changed…
Amidst all the outrage, the university withdrew the gender segregation notice. Apparently, the notification was issued without the approval of the vice-chancellor and the matter is now supposed to be investigated by a three-member committee.
The Vice-Chancellor of UET Lahore has declared that notice for seperate sitting arrangements for male and female students invalid. According to him this notice was released without his approval. A three-member committee will investigate this matter. https://t.co/z6oOXSkLxl pic.twitter.com/1B4JC0Pegd

Thankfully this ridiculous measure has been taken back, but only after the outrage on social media. India almost made it to the moon in their FIRST attempt and Pakistani universities like #UET are busy focusing on segregating male and female students. Pathetic. https://t.co/lBARAmQhJ7
