Our country has long suffered from a very sad and unwavering manifestation of beauty. Color discrimination still prevails, with those who are white, or ‘gora’ considered more beautiful than those who are dark skinned. Our visual medium doesn’t particularly dampen this mindset either, with many morning shows teaching its audiences methods to bleach skin so it’s fairer, and dramas condemning girls who have dark skin.

It’s 2019, and our nation’s bleak and disappointing perspectives on skin color still exist – the ‘gora complex,’ as some w0uld call it.

Actress Ushna Shah posted a throwback picture of herself and it lured in uncouth comments about the color of her skin.

The troller commented that the actress was “kali” from her childhood, to which Ushna savagely responded.

The actress took the comment lightly and said how trollers like these were those who never played outside in the sun and suffered an inferiority complex.

Ushna responded to an Instagram user who defended her, and said she wished she had better brown skin, saying “aur mere liye dua karein ke kash mera rang mazeed gandomee ho jayein…” She then prayed for a better future, where mindsets were not as degrading.

Fellow users commented beneath the post, lauding her for her honesty and truth.

A few responded to the troller who called her “kali” and supported Ushna.

We loved Ushna’s response! You do you girl!
