Last week we reported how the young girl, Asifa Bano, who was brutally raped and murdered in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) was the most searched porn trend in Pakistan
However many claimed that since the website is blocked in Pakistan, it is fake news
No one was ready to believe that Pakistanis could search for such a thing, despite knowing that a similar trend had emerged out of India, recently
Many even went and crosschecked the news themselves and sure, it wasn’t ther
So we asked the porn website xvideos.com to confirm the story and share what had actually happened
Soon after MangoBaaz‘s story, the search term “Asifa” had disappeared from the website; leaving no signs of it ever being searched. Now there are only three plausible answers in this case:
- It is fake news, as many claimed
- The search was time specific and the trends had altered by that time
- The website had blacklisted the search for such content due to their policy
So we sent an email to the company:
The website was quick to respond and, much to the disappointment of naysayers they confirmed that the search term was in fact as reported
The website had itself blacklisted the search term to prevent such content going around on the site.
Now that it is established that such a trend was witnessed, let’s talk about the real issue here
It goes to show that people have not been sensitized that they know the difference between porn and rape. If they are consuming rape videos and thinking that it is ok, this can translate into them replicating the behaviour of the rapist and making videos. This is a dangerous trend which should be monitored. Also, there is no denying that people still consume porn despite the ban. If that is the reality of the situation, we need to create awareness about the boundaries that they should not be crossing.
