It’s rare for a person to feel that they don’t need to get organized. No matter how organized you are, there’s always room for improvement.

Here are some easy ways you can get your dysfunctional life in order:

Trying to remember important dates and reminders in your head will eventually drive you insane. Pen and paper is my personal way of remembering things because of the fact that it’s much more permanent. Using a computer or a smart phone is also a great way to make lists. List down everything: groceries lists, meetings, birthdays, addresses, phone numbers, and gifts.

Technology is great but unfortunately, its not very reliable. Make sure you use a hard drive, USB, or online drive to store all your important files, documents, pictures, and anything else that is important to you.

Choose a calendar that works best for you. Whether it be on your computer, mobile, PDA, or paper on your desk – keep your calendar updated daily. If you’re keeping up with more than one schedule, use different colored ink for each person or category.

Stop yourself when you start procrastinating

The longer you wait to do something, the harder it will be to actually get it done. If you want to de-stress and simplify your life – start organizing as soon as you possibly can. Putting in the effort to get a task done quickly will take the weight off your shoulders sooner and improve your productivity.

Find a place for everything

Everything you own should have it’s own designated space. What you use most often should be in a space that is easy to get to. This way you can spend less time dreading to do things and more time getting things done. Realize that eventually an item you once loved will have to go in a trash can or donation bin.

Declutter and get rid of things

I know, it’s obvious but saying it SO important because you may be hoarding stuff without even realizing it.

More things leads to more clutter. People who live organized lives only keep what they need and what they really want. Having a small number of belongings helps you enjoy and appreciate everything you own. Find time to get rid of things in your closet by donating them to the less fortunate. Avoid going to sales if you have a tendency to buy things you don’t need and make lists of things you need before you go shopping.
