Meesha Shafi has been in the spotlight after she accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment. Her action made other women come out and join forces with Meesha. There has been an online battle between those who support Meesha and those who stand with Ali Zafar, however, both singers have remained mute ever since the matter has taken a legal color.

Ever since she made the statement, Meesha has maintained that she feels liberated and empowered and consistently sends that message across through her tweets.

Yesterday, the singer posted an interesting photo, captioned ‘A thing of the past’. At first glance, it looks rather abstract, but the more you think about it, the more you realize what exactly she’s saying

The analogy is pretty clear. Before she came forth with her allegations, she felt caged in. She didn’t feel free or liberated, much like a bird who is trapped in a cage. However, now that she’s told the world, and has been embraced by love and support, she is free of the confines on the cage. She can do what she wants, how she wants and when she wants. She feels fearless and free, like a bird who is no longer in captivity.

Now that is a pretty strong statement to make. It’s empowering to see someone who we always saw as strong, to break free from the cage that was holding them back. Meesha’s taking a whole new flight now, stronger and more empowered, and that’s inspiration for us all.

I think at this point we all know how people react online. There were a few trolls, sadly.

However, it was refreshing to see that Meesha’s supporters were quick to respond

Regardless of what other people say, one must find the strength within them to speak up for what is right. You don’t do something like that for the sake of others, you do something like that for yourself since you are the one person you need to take care of first, ALWAYS. As cliched as the line is, be the change you want to see in the world. I for one feel that Meesha Shafi is one person who now embodies that spirit and maybe it’s high time we take a lesson from her life.
