Muniba Mazari is an incredibly talented painter, public speaker, social servant and activist. While she’s probably one of Pakistan’s most cherished activists she has found herself in the middle of a controversy regarding her past personal life.

Muniba’s ex-husband says she’s defaming him and he is “deeply saddened” by that

Khurram Shahzad, who is a retired fighter pilot of Pakistan Air Force, has filed a case against her for defaming him and blaming him for all that she went through.

Here’s a little background to what he means

In 2007, Muniba met a car accident in which she sustained multiple injuries including spinal cord which left her a paraplegic, we all know how she turned that tragic incident into a moment of strength for herself.

She has spoken about it on several platforms, highlighting how her married life changed as well. She has also pointed out how it was not a happy marriage and during that accident, he jumped out and saved himself but she stayed in the car and sustained several injuries.

The social activist’s ex says he is “deeply saddened” that’s why he’s suing her for Rs 1,00,00,000

Muniba and Khurram got married on 26 December 2005. The accident which he has contention to, he says that it took place because a donkey cart rammed into their car, not because he fell asleep. He says that he took her to the best medical facility to get treated and they eventually adopted a child because they mutually agreed to it.

His problems began when Muniba started becoming a public figure and he says he “did not allow” her to be involved in her public life because it was against his moral beliefs. Eventually she left the house because of these disagreements and filed for a divorce.

His petition reads, “Being an esteemed officer of the defence forces, the plaintiff could not allow the defendant to continue such practices and eventually tried to stop her. The defendant instead of stopping, with her free will and choice left the house of plaintiff in September 2014 along with the minor adopted son. Nowadays, defendant has become a popular artist, and during her media shows on different forums she talked wrongly about him and defamed him on different forums.”

There are two sides to all stories, and we should listen to them both while making an opinion. In this case, the two stories that are coming across are polar opposites to each other. It would be best to let the court do its job and decide who is right and who is wrong, rather than jumping to conclusions.
